Teaching can be one of the most rewarding career paths to take.

Here at York College & University Centre, we provide a wide range of opportunities for students to begin a career as a teacher or trainer in the post-compulsory sector. We also offer programmes for practitioners wishing to develop their careers by adding to their existing qualifications.

Our extensive offering is supported by our dedicated team of tutors, all of whom have a great deal of experience in the teaching professions. This has enabled our students to flourish in a range of roles, at both further and higher education level.

Teacher Training: PGCE/CertEd

Matthew Bird

“The level of support in the College is fantastic, and being in the classroom with other trainee teachers just makes you appreciate that you’re not the only person who might be feeling nervous teaching in front of a whole class for the first time.

The How2 classes are a fantastic learning tool, too. Even things like establishing entry routines for classes help change everything and sets a precedent for which outcomes you want from your lessons.”
