Lisa received the Best Make Up and Hair Design BAFTA for her work on the ITV hit drama The Long Shadow, which told the story of the police’s five-year search for Yorkshire Ripper Peter Sutcliffe.

The BAFTA TV awards were televised by BBC One in a show hosted by comedians Rob Beckett and Romesh Ranganathan at London’s Royal Festival Hall.

Lisa was one of the first students to enrol on York College’s Media Make-Up course when it was run by Yorkshire Television at the time.

“I’d always had a passion for make-up and art, so I decided to pursue a media make-up degree to explore my creativity. I chose to study at York College University Centre despite the commute, as it offered a degree that covered all disciplines, including wig work.

My experience at York College University Centre has been amazing. I’ve learned so many skills that I never would have thought I’d learn and my tutors were great; they always took time to support me.

Studying at York College University Centre provided me with lots of contacts and industry knowledge, and I’m now using the skills I’ve learned as a make-up artist for TV and film.”

“I’d come from a journalistic background and wanted a fresh start, so I decided to pursue a career in counselling. I was interested in the counselling route because I thought I was a good listener, but when I started the course, I realised I knew nothing. Studying has made me a much better listener and it’s made me a better person; I’m more mindful of myself and others.

I chose to study at York College University Centre as it offered well respected counselling qualifications at various levels. The course offer and quality was amazing. My tutors were fantastically supportive and helpful, and the University Centre space was a great resource.

My experience at York College University Centre was amazing. It was challenging but I’ve learnt so much and grown as a person. This is the most special graduation I’ve attended and I there’s no greater triumph than being able to attend today’s ceremony.

Since graduation, I’ve gained employment as a counsellor at Disability Plus, helping to counsel others with cerebral palsy like myself.”

“I’d studied a Level 3 course at College previously so I knew that York College offered fantastic tutors and a nice atmosphere, so it seemed like a great next step to study at the University Centre.

York College offers specialist facilities such as the cybersecurity lab, which really enhances student learning. Studying at York College University Centre felt more personal than a larger university environment, and I can’t recommend it highly enough.

I’m now planning on further study and will be progressing to York St John University to study a computer science related degree. In the future I’d like a career in either the computer science or cybersecurity industries.”
