Early Years Practitioner Diploma Level 2

A minimum of 4 subjects at grade 3 or above including English and Maths.

In addition, students should have a good attendance record and complete a successful Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check prior to starting the course, for which there will be a charge.

What will I study?

The qualification is made up of 14 units which include:

• Roles and Responsibilities of the Early Years Practitioner
• Health and Safety of Babies and Young Children in the Early Years 
• Equality, Diversity and Inclusive Practice in Early Years Settings 
• Safeguarding, Protection and Welfare of Babies and Young Children in Early Years Settings 
• Understand How to Support Children's Development 
• Support Care Routines for Babies and Young Children 
• Support the Planning and Delivery of Activities, Purposeful Play Opportunities and Educational Programmes 
• Promote Play in an Early Years Setting 
• Support Well-Being of Babies and Young Children for Healthy Lifestyles 
• Support Babies and Young Children to be Physically Active 
• Support the Needs of Babies and Young Children With Special Educational Needs and Disability 
• Promote Positive Behaviour in Early Years Settings 
• Partnership Working in the Early Years 
• Support the Needs of the Child in Preparing for School 

Additional costs
Prior to starting the course students are required to complete a successful Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS), for which there will be a charge. A York College placement top will also need to be purchased.

There will be a one or two day placement and you are required to undertake a minimum amount of 250 hours of real work experience, you will be assed in the workplace. Allocation of this placement will come from the college placement team.

All classes are taught in college, however there may also be opportunities to take part in trips which are related to the units taught.

All units for this qualification will be internally assessed using a portfolio of evidence. 

This is a full-time course. It is not possible to combine this course with other Vocational, Apprenticeship or A Level programmes.

This qualification allows a learner to count towards the Level 2 ratio as a qualified Level 2 Early Years Practitioner across the Early Years Workforce.

Students may work under supervision in a variety of roles such as:

• nursery practitioner
• classroom assistant
• pre-school practitioner.

If maths and English grades are at a grade 4 you can also progress on to the Level 3 Early Years Educator qualifications and other Level 3 qualifications. .
