Light Vehicle Maintenance & Repair Principles (VRQ) IMI Diploma Level 3
This qualification is designed to provide a standardised approach for the delivery and assessment of the knowledge and skills requirements. This VRQ also provides the knowledge requirements for its related VCQ and forms the knowledge component of the IMI Level 3 Standard Advanced Apprenticeship (for Light Vehicle).
Entry requirements
This qualification can only be accessed by first obtaining the Level 2 Diploma in Vehicle Maintenance and Repair Principles and is the natural progression for students who have completed that qualification.
Level 2 IMI Diploma Vehicle Maintenance and GCSE Maths and English at Grade 4
This may have been studied at York College or other providers.
What will I study?
- Engine Systems - Diagnosing and Rectifying System Faults
- Chassis Systems - Diagnosing and Rectifying System Faults
- Transmission Systems - Diagnosing and Rectifying System Faults
- Electronic Systems - Diagnosing and Rectifying System Faults
- Inspecting Vehicles using differing methods.
Additional costs
As per the other levels, students must provide the correct Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and toolbox.
Method of delivery
You will typically be in College three days per week with time spent in the workshop undertaking practical activities and in the classroom studying theory work.
How will I be assessed?
The assessment is made up of three components which are set by the IMI:
- Practical tasks
- Online testing
- Written assignments/coursework throughout the course
Good course combinations
This is a full-time course. It is not possible to combine this course with other Vocational, T Level, Apprenticeship or A Level programmes.
Your next steps
Students can progress to complete the full VCQ Level 3 Standard Apprenticeship, a Foundation Degree in Automotive/Motorsport Engineering or employment within the Automotive Industry.
