Introduction to the Beauty & Media Make-up Sector VRQ Certificate Level 1 (Foundation Learning)
This is an introduction to Beauty Therapy and Media Make-up, providing a stepping-stone to Level 2 Hairdressing, Beauty Therapy or Hair & Media Make-up.
Entry requirements
You must have a minimum of 3 GCSE subjects at grade 2.

- Face Painting
- Presenting a Professional Image in a Salon
- Health and Safety in the Salon
- Reception Duties

Additional costs
All students are expected to purchase a practical kit and uniform, details of which will be provided during your advice and guidance discussion and induction.
Method of delivery
This course is predominantly a practical-based course. This means that the majority of your training will be delivered in a salon/workshop environment. You’ll be expected to complete theoretical knowledge through homework activities and directed learning, although some theory work will also be embedded into practical sessions. You will be required to complete tests and assignments as part of your study. You may be required to partake in online learning activities throughout the course, which are often led by employers and industry specialists.
Students will practice treatments on each other during lesson time and are encouraged to also practise these skills at home.
Students will be required to wear a uniform and adhere to a strict dress code.

Practical assessments on colleagues and clients.
Oral/written questions and assignment work.
Good course combinations
This is a full-time course. It is not possible to combine this course with other Vocational, T Level, Apprenticeship or A Level programmes.
Your next steps
You can progress on to Level 2 courses in Hair & Media Make-up, Hairdressing or Beauty Therapy. Alternatively, you may go straight into a salon as a Salon Assistant/Junior. The course also provides skills transferable to other subject areas.
