Introduction to Studio Sound Recording
This will provide an excellent introduction to the basics of recording studio sound recording. You will be taught to navigate the studio environment in a safe and professional fashion, together with an introduction to understanding studio architecture, hardware and software, arming you with the correct terminology and techniques to operate confidently in this environment.
Entry requirements
There are no formal entry requirements for this course, although enthusiasm and commitment are essential. Some experience of working creatively in the field of music will be useful.
Course units
This will provide an excellent introduction to the basics of recording studio sound recording. You will be taught to navigate the studio environment in a safe and professional fashion, together with an introduction to understanding studio architecture, hardware and software, arming you with the correct terminology and techniques to operate confidently in this environment.
Students will be guided on how to navigate the Studio space, capture rooms, the mixing desk and all its controls, our digital audio workstation Cubase, microphones and mic’ing/capture techniques, together with understanding the importance of acoustics and acoustic treatment. We will also introduce students to the concept of how to mix tracks, together with effects processing, dynamic processing, and basic mastering.
There will also be the opportunity to develop more complex skills by progressing to the intermediate and advanced courses, which the College will be offering as a follow up to those wishing to delve further into the field.
Assessments
No formal assessments. There is no formal completion qualification and students will be able to work at their own pace. The course provides space, equipment and direction for students to produce outcomes.

Study methods
Onsite, face-to-face delivery. Students will learn in a friendly and professional recording studio environment with all appropriate health and safety provision.
Facilities
You will be taught in a recording studio with all materials provided. As well as our state of the art digital and analogue hybrid recording studio and capture room, students have access to a fantastic range of College-wide facilities such as the Learning & Research Centre, study hubs, computer areas with accompanying multi-function printers and helpdesk advice.
