Health Care Support Worker Apprenticeship Level 2
Healthcare Support Workers provide high-quality and compassionate person-centred care and support based on individual needs and setting.
Entry requirements
You must be employed in a relevant role for a minimum of 30 hours per week. As a minimum, you should have 3 GCSEs at grade 3 or above, including English and Maths.
What will I study?
This apprenticeship will give you the knowledge, skills and behaviours required to work as a Health Care Support Worker and will include the following:
- Act within the limits of own competence and within agreed ways of working, following the relevant local and national standards, policies and protocols used in the workplace.
- Monitor the health and well-being of individuals in your care.
- Assist individuals to maximise their independence.
- Contribute to the daily running and administration of an effective and efficient service or team.
- Use communication methods and techniques to overcome barriers and meet individuals’ wishes, preferences and needs.
- Promote the health and wellbeing of individuals.
- Record, report and store information related to individuals.
- Maintain own and others’ safety at work.
- Maintain and further develop your own skills and knowledge.
Contribute to the quality of services by participating in improvement activities.
You will also produce a portfolio of evidence demonstrating examples of your work throughout the apprenticeship which will form the basis for the interview during the End-Point Assessment (EPA).
Method of delivery
Apprentices will typically attend York College on a day release for the duration of the apprenticeship and work with their employer for the remainder of their contracted hours.
During their time in College, apprentices will work towards developing their knowledge, skills and behaviours, and at work will consolidate their on-programme learning with the support of their employer. An assessor will visit the workplace every 8-10 weeks to discuss and monitor progress on the apprenticeship in conjunction with the employer.
How will I be assessed?
Continual assessment will take place throughout the duration of the apprenticeship.
The End-Point Assessment (EPA) will comprise of a 60-minute professional discussion with a minimum of 8 questions asked based on the portfolio that you have complied during your apprenticeship. There is also a 2 hour observation with questioning where you will be asked a minimum of 4 questions.

There are no specific College programme related costs, however you will be advised of any additional costs during your application and enrolment process.

Good course combinations
It is not possible to combine this course with other Vocational, T Level or A Level programmes.
