Esports - Business & Digital Innovation Diploma Level 2
The BTEC Level 2 Diploma in Esports is aimed at students who have chosen to focus their learning and career development within the world of esports and who are looking for an engaging and stimulating qualification that will prepare them for successful performance in working life, and progression into employment, by developing a range of essential skills, techniques and attitudes.
Entry requirements
A minimum of 3 GCSE subjects at grade 3 with GCSE English and Maths one at grade 3 and one at grade 4.
What will I study?
The Level 2 Diploma is made up of a range of units, which include:
- Esports Games, Teams and Tournaments
- Establishing an Esports Organisation
- Streaming for Esports
- Plan for an Esports Enterprise
- Start an Enterprise in Esports
- Positive Health and Well-being in Esports
You can re-sit GCSE Maths or English alongside this course.
Qualification
On completion of this course you will achieve a BTEC Level 2 Diploma in Esports.
Method of delivery
Your weekly timetable will be a mix of theory and practical sessions.
How will I be assessed?
Assessment methods are all coursework based with a lot of the assignments being reports, PowerPoints, audio reflections or practically based.
Good course combinations
This is a full-time course. It is not possible to combine this course with other Vocational, T Level, Apprenticeship or A Level programmes.
Your next steps
Students taking this qualification may also want to progress to further study such as BTEC Level 3 qualifications in Esports, Information Technology, Creative Media, Sport or Business.
With a background in education theory and performance psychology, Joe has served as the Head of Esports at York College since September 2024. As an alumnus himself, Joe is focused on growing the esports programme by building relationships with sports organisations, universities, and businesses, both regionally and nationally to better the recruitment opportunities for his students.
As a proud alumnus of York College and the Royal Central School of Speech and Drama in London, Joe moved to New York City to work professionally before returning to York in 2018. He has worked across a wide variety of educational roles before formally completing his PGCE with the University of Huddersfield in 2022 and was subsequently recruited to join York College.
Joe has firsthand experience with the competitive esports scene and working in tandem with his brother, operates an anonymous esports promotional company that educates people on the benefits of esports. Joe brings this wealth of experience into his teaching, grounding his instruction in real-world applications.
Looking to the future, Joe is currently pursuing a PhD exploring the topic of violence within video games.
