Early Years Practitioner Apprenticeship Level 2
An Early Years Practitioner will work and interact directly with children on a day to day basis supporting the planning of and delivery of activities.
Entry requirements
You should have a minimum of 4 GCSEs at grade 3 or above including English and Maths.
What will I study?
This apprenticeship will give you the knowledge, skills and behaviours required to work as an Early Years Practitioner and will include the following:
- Work in partnership with other colleagues, parents and/or carers or other professionals to meet the individual needs of each child in line with company policies and procedures.
- Use play to support children to understand and encourage healthy life choices.
- Identify issues of safeguarding and child protection, ensuring that the welfare and safety of children is promoted and safeguarded and to report any child protection concerns to the person in charge.
- Carryout self-reflection and use continuous professional development opportunities to improve practice.
- Undertake specific tasks related to the safety and hygiene of the children and the cleanliness of the setting.
- Use their knowledge of child development to work with parents and carers to improve children outcomes and wellbeing, including those with disabilities and additional needs.
- Contribute to the planning and organise activities and children's individual experiences which will support and extend the children’s learning in line with the Early Years Foundation Stage.
- Communicate and engage with children to support their learning and development.
- Support the collection of accurate and up-to-date records which identify children’s individual needs, abilities and progress and use these as a basis for future planning.
- Support the wellbeing of all children including those with additional needs and disabilities.
Method of delivery
Apprentices will typically attend York College on a day release for the duration of the apprenticeship and work with their employer for the remainder of their contracted hours. During their time in College, apprentices will work towards developing their knowledge, skills and behaviours, and at work will consolidate their on-programme learning with the support of their employer. An assessor will visit every 8-10 weeks to discuss and monitor progress on the apprenticeship in conjunction with the employer
How will I be assessed?
Continual assessment will take place throughout the duration of the apprenticeship.
The End-Point Assessment (EPA) will comprise of a 90-minute professional discussion with a minimum of 10 questions asked based on the portfolio that you have complied during your apprenticeship. There is also a knowledge test of 40 multi-choice questions

There are no specific College programme related costs, however you will be advised of any additional costs during your application and enrolment process.

Early Years Practitioner Level 2 Apprenticeship.
Early Years Practitioner Level 2 Qualification.
Good course combinations
This is a full-time course. It is not possible to combine this course with other Vocational, T Level or A Level programmes.
Your next steps
This qualification allows a learner to count towards the Level 2 ratio as a qualified Level 2 Early Years Practitioner across the Early Years Workforce.
Students may work under supervision in a variety of roles such as:
• nursery practitioner
• classroom assistant
• pre-school practitioner.
If maths and English grades are at a grade 4 you can also progress on to the Level 3 Early Years Educator qualifications and other Level 3 qualifications. .
