City & Guilds Level 2 Diploma in Plumbing Studies
This course is designed for anyone who would like to learn some basic practical plumbing skills. The Level 2 Diploma is a City & Guilds qualification is designed for people who would like to start to learn about working in the plumbing industry. It is aimed to provide you with underpinning knowledge to help support further studies.
For people who potentially want to work as plumbers in the building services engineering sector. This qualification does not make candidates fully qualified plumbers however is a good start to progress into further study or industry.
It allows candidates to learn, develop and practise the skills required for employment and/or career progression in the plumbing sector.
Entry requirements
There are no formal entry requirements for this course, however, a genuine interest in the subject and outstanding commitment and enthusiasm is essential. Along with, a good standard of functional English and Maths, plus time available to undertake home study during the course.
Course units
A range of basic skills and techniques will be introduced including a combination of the following:
- Health and safety
- Electrical safety
- Plumbing processes
- Hot and cold water systems
- Central heating (pipework)
- Sanitation and drainage
Assessments
Work will be assessed in line with awarding body requirements and includes practical training and assessment within the College plumbing workshop. There will also be nine online multiple choice exams. You will be given support from your tutors to fully prepare you for these assessments.

Course progression
On successful completion of the Level 2 Diploma in Plumbing Studies, you could progress on to employment in the industry as a Plumber's Mate, or a Level 2 Apprenticeship (this qualification can count towards half the work required to complete the full Level 2 Apprenticeship).

Study methods
This course will be delivered by qualified experience tutors who are experts in their disciplines. Teaching will be done in a practical setting which will allow you to spend the time using the tools and resources.

As well as specialist construction workshops, students have access to a fantastic range of College-wide facilities such as the Learning & Research Centre, study hubs, computer areas with accompanying multi-function printers and helpdesk advice.
Additional costs
All materials are provided for you to complete the course. However, this course requires additional study from home and you will need access to a PC/laptop/smart phone and suitable Wi-Fi to prepare for the assessments.
Career progression
Students will be equipped with the skills and knowledge required to progress in their current employment or enter employment in the construction industry. You may also have the option to transfer to an apprenticeship and then progress on to higher-level courses in construction.
