Art School: Digital Photography
This course caters for all abilities and will enable students to learn how to pursue their interest in photography and image manipulation. The course will provide additional knowledge and skills, enabling students to create their own folio of work, and hopefully increase their enjoyment in photography.
The photography course is a great way to improve your understanding of photographic concepts and photographic equipment. Image editing software is covered at a basic level; introducing tools and techniques up to intermediate level.
Both camera and software activities involve practical assignments (during class time and your own study time) utilising guided tutorials. The course will allow you to pursue your interest in photography and image manipulation (students should note this is not a 'wet photography' course).
Entry requirements
There are no formal entry requirements for this course, however, enthusiasm and commitment is essential.

The course explains digital cameras in general, looking at the many modes and functions that are available to the end user. The course covers critical settings that keen photographers should be aware of to enable the possibilities of obtaining better pictures. In addition, basic photographic concepts are explained and explored using practical tasks, presentations and handouts to help students take better creative pictures.
The ‘Photoshop’ (image-editing) tutorials cover basic tools and techniques, then move on to more advanced techniques such as layers, layer masks, adjustment layers, smart layers, blending modes, retouching skills and techniques, and the use of ‘RAW’ images etc. During the course, the tutor gives many hints and tips on how to get the best out of image editing.

Throughout the course, students will be encouraged to experiment and use the available facilities of the College to produce their own individual work.
