The majority of students aged 19 and over will need to pay fees; however, there are certain exceptions. You may not have to pay fees if you fall into one of the exemption categories. There are different exemption categories depending on the level of course you wish to study. Not all courses qualify for free remission or a loan, so please check with our Admissions Team.
You can reach the Admissions Team by emailing info@yorkcollege.ac.uk or our Funding Team by emailing funding@yorkcollege.ac.uk before enrolling.
Residency criteria apply to most of our courses – if you are not a UK national or have not lived in the UK for the past three years, please email international@yorkcollege.ac.uk for more information.
Qualifications at Level 3 and below
There may be fee remission available on some Entry, Level 1, Level 2 or Level 3 courses depending on your age, previous qualifications and personal circumstances.
Please contact the Funding Team if you would like to discuss this further.
Advanced Learner Loans
If you are studying a Loans-eligible Level 3-6 course and you are not eligible for fee remission, you may be able to apply for an Advanced Learner Loan.
The loan can be used to pay for Level 3, 4, 5 or 6 qualifications including Certificates, Diplomas, Access to Higher Education Diplomas and A Levels and they will enable eligible students to borrow the course fees and pay them back at a later date. Your loan is paid directly to the College.
For more information, please go to www.gov.uk/advanced-learner-loan.
Higher Education (degree level courses)
You may be eligible for Student Finance including tuition fee loans, maintenance loans and additional grants.
Please visit www.gov.uk/get-undergraduate-student-loan for more information and to check your eligibility.

You are of course free to continue to make flexible payments at any point
- Provide proof of sponsorship (for example a letter or email from your employer)
- Apply for an Advanced Learner Loan
- Apply for a Tuition Fee Loan through Student Finance
Apprenticeships
Fees for students studying an Apprenticeship at York College are dependent on the status of their employer.
