You will be in College for the whole day until 4.15pm so will need to bring lunch and a drink or some money to purchase these from one of our cafes.

When do I enrol on my course?

We will contact you at the beginning of August with details of how and when you will enrol. Degree courses will enrol on Monday 19th August. Foundation Diploma in Art & Design will enrol on Wednesday 21st August. Apprenticeships and Access to Higher Education will enrol on Thursday 22nd August. All other Vocational, T Level and A Level courses will enrol between Friday 23rd August to Tuesday 3rd September (excluding weekends and the bank holiday).

What if I don’t get the GCSE grades I need or I’ve changed my mind about my course?

We will strive to find the right course for you, even if it’s not the path you originally had in mind. You will be able to speak to someone regarding your course and grades if you would like, to help you decide the best option for you.

What’s it like to study at York College? Will I settle in?

It’s normal to feel nervous when starting somewhere new, but just remember that it’s new for everyone. Through class time and tutorials you’ll meet new people with similar interests to you and soon settle in.

All new students take part in an induction when they start their course too. This is designed to welcome you and provide the necessary information to help make the most of your time at College. It starts from the initial guidance and support started before you enrol at College and continues throughout your course and beyond.

If I do have problems, where do I go?

If you have any questions or problems with your course or any issues at College, you can talk to your Progress Coach – they are a bit like your form tutor at school. You will be told who they are, and will meet them when you start College. You can talk to any of your subject tutors too.

We have a strong team of advisers in College who can provide confidential information, advice and guidance on a range of issues including travel, careers, welfare, benefits, financial assistance, emotional and practical support, health and much more. Whatever you need help with, just ask.

If I get extra help or support at school, will I still get support at College?

If you have a learning difficulty and/or disability and have let us know on your application that you would like support when you’re at College, our Learning Support Team will contact you to talk with you about what support you would like. If you have already applied and not told us, don’t worry, you can contact the Admissions Team (info@yorkcollege.ac.uk) and they will add the information to your form. You can also self-refer when you’re on your course at College, if you find that once you start you would like some help.

Yes you can – it is not too late. Please apply here on our website.

How do I find out if I have a place at College?

Once you have applied your application will be reviewed and you will either receive an offer via email or be invited for a Guidance Discussion with a Tutor for further advice and guidance. After your guidance discussion if you are offered a place on the course you will receive your offer letter via email. In late July to early August we will send you an invitation to attend enrolment. If you are worried you have not received an offer since you have applied please email info@yorkcollege.ac.uk

Do I need to buy a kit/uniform for my course?

You will be informed if you need to buy a kit or uniform at enrolment.

Please note that the FE College Bursary can help with the cost of kit/equipment for your course. The most common support elements are travel funding, free meals credit (for those aged under 19), and funding for equipment/uniform. If your household income is less than £35,000 (before deductions), you should be eligible for the bursary. You can apply now via our website page – www.yorkcollege.ac.uk/bursary - where you can also find our Frequently Asked Questions and an Income Evidence Guide on there to help you.

How do I get to College?

You can also contact our travel team at Transport@yorkcollege.ac.uk. Directions on how to get here, as well as information on travelling by train, cycle and motorbike as well as general parking information can be found here.

What should I bring on my first day at College?

You will have been given instructions at enrolment if there is something specific that you need to bring for your course.

Is there WiFi at College that I can use?
