Talented York College carpenter receives national award
A former York College student received a ‘Highly Commended’ certificate in the Institute of Carpentry’s (IOC) 3rd Year Student Awards.
Jacob Cockeram was one of only three young joiners from around the country to be recognised in the awards. After completing his studies with us In November 2020, Jacob has been an apprentice with Tockwith-based Stage One, and recently worked in Edinburgh on the new Johnnie Walker visitor centre.
Adrian Salton, Tutor in Furniture Making at York College, said: “Jacob definitely deserves this recognition. He’s been an exemplary apprentice and is a now a fine ambassador for his company.
“He’s shown maturity and is very knowledgeable and I’m sure he’s going to be a great asset. This is a national award so it’s a great achievement.
“He’s out in the industry now after completing the full level three apprenticeship here at York College and it’s fantastic to see him providing valuable skills to the region’s economy.”
IOC president Geoff Rhodes added: “By providing support and encouragement to all those embarking on their training in these fields, and then moving into subsequent chosen careers, we can celebrate the achievements of specific students who demonstrate the commitment and skills the construction industry so needs.”
