College Brings Joy to the Community with Charitable Hamper Donations
The spirit of giving is alive and well at York College, where staff and students have come together to create 32 hampers filled with treats and useful items for those in need. These hampers have been donated to The Island York, a local charity dedicated to supporting vulnerable individuals and families in the community.
Over the past few weeks, it’s been fantastic to see how our community has worked tirelessly to assemble the hampers, which include a variety of thoughtful items. From non-perishable food and toiletries to small gifts and festive treats, each hamper has been carefully curated to provide comfort and joy to its recipients.
The atmosphere throughout the process was one of generosity and shared purpose, as everyone rallied around the common goal of making a difference.
The Island York, the charity receiving the hampers, is well-known for its vital work in supporting those who are struggling. The organisation provides mentorship, resources, and emotional support to people facing challenging circumstances. By donating these hampers, York College hopes to ease some of the burdens faced by individuals and families during the holiday season.
A huge thank you to tutors Luke Layzelle and Clare Kirton for their efforts in pulling the project together. Luke and Clare would also like to thank Tesco for supplying the boxes and wrapping paper, Progress Coaches Charlotte Wareham and Beth Cooper , the humanities department for their valued input, and everyone who so kindly donated.
