This qualification is designed for any learner that wants to raise their awareness of mental health and the problems that can cause mental ill-health.

Entry Requirements

There are no specific prior qualifications needed to access this qualification, although learners may find it useful to have previously achieved a Level 1 qualification in a health, social care or mental health related area.

Course Content

This is a QCF qualification with the following mandatory units:

  • Understanding mental health
  • Understanding stress
  • Understanding anxiety
  • Understanding phobias
  • Understanding depression
  • Understanding post-natal depression
  • Understanding bipolar disorder
  • Understanding schizophrenia
  • Understanding dementia
  • Understanding eating disorders
  • In each of the above areas learners will gain an understanding of the specific mental health topic. They will develop an understanding of the topic in relation to symptoms, experience for the individual, support needs, how the disorder can be managed.

    How You Can Progress

    This qualification supports progression to employment and progression within employment for job roles within the Health & Social Care industry. Learners may also consider progression to further learning in the industry such as: CPCAB Level 2 Award in Counselling Skills.
