An introduction to the short story.
Enter worlds of dark secrets, terror and revenge, tales of love, loss, joy and hope through exploring the works of writers past and present.
This course is for anyone who simply wishes to enhance their appreciation of literature or be inspired to develop their own writing style. We will analyse methods and techniques used to create characters, narrative voices, mood and atmosphere as well as plot lines and genre conventions. Texts will include works by Charles Dickens, Thomas Hardy, D. H Lawrence, Angela Carter, Edgar Allen Poe, Alice Walker, Jamaica Kincaid plus works from the science fiction and fantasy genres.
