The course will aim to work through analysing the techniques of great writers in detail so students can improve their own style. The best way to become a great writer is to study the greatest works in the English language. The course will look at short story writing, poetry, extracts from novels from different genres and historical periods. Writers studied will include: modern short story writers and poets along with extracts from 19th century novels by Dickens, Hardy, the Bronte sisters, poetry by Shakespeare and by a selection of Romantic poets.
