This apprenticeship is ideal for those apprentices who have just completed Level 2 and would like to now further their knowledge and skill set within the motor vehicle industry. Within North Yorkshire and nationwide, employers are looking for highly motivated, highly skilled and fully qualified Motor Technicians to enhance and grow their businesses. Completing Level 3 gives the apprentice all the requirements to move onto the MOT Inspector’s role after undertaking a further course.
As an advanced apprentice you will further develop on your knowledge and start to enhance your diagnostic skills. To assist you to keep a record of all these new skills, you will, with assistance from your employer and Work Based Assessor (WBA), need to keep a logbook that will record all of your soft skills, your professional development and behaviour.
As you develop your diagnostic skills and repair knowledge you will be constantly assessed by your employer and WBA.
VRQ/VCQ Level 3 Diploma in Vehicle Maintenance & Repair Competence & Knowledge (Light Vehicle)
Functional skills level 1/2 in Maths
Functional skills level 1/2 in English
End Point Assessment Information
The apprentice must be competent and cover all the criteria learnt at college. To be deemed competent your employer and WBA will note in your professional logbook if you have fulfilled the level required.
Achieve passes in all Functional Skills for their level qualification. (Apprentices are exempt from FS Maths and English if they have previously gained a Grade C/4 or higher at GCSE Maths and English).
A structured interview, practical and theory tests away from the main place of learning. These will include an online test, professional discussion and skills test.
Method(s) of delivery
Apprentices attend College on day release for 2 years of the apprenticeship and spend the final year at work. At College they will learn the knowledge required to attain the apprenticeship and the WBA will visit the workplace to carry out reviews and practical observations in conjunction with the employer.
Before starting the apprenticeship you must be employed by someone in the relevant area you want to work in and be employed for a minimum of 30 hours. You will have completed a Level 2 apprenticeship in motor vehicle maintenance or equivalent and ideally candidates should have 3 GCSE’s at Grade C/4 or higher which should include Maths and English or the minimum of Level 1 Functional skills in Maths & English.
