Who is it for and what is the aim?

This session is for supervisors and managers who are formally responsible for the performance and development of individual staff and teams. Its aim is to build basic skills and understanding in the practice of effective delegation, to benefit the organisation, individuals, and teams.

What are the learning outcomes?

As a result of attending the session, learners will be able to:

  • Judge how to make delegation decisions
  • State why and where delegation could be used
  • Identify effective techniques for delegation
  • Explain the benefits of pitfalls of delegation
  • Demonstrate a range of communication approaches with which to harness effective delegation

  • Setting up the act of delegation
  • The 5-stage delegation process
  • Giving valuable feedback, instead of personal criticism

How will delegates learn?

Through taking part in a range of different learning methods, including: exercises (pairs and groups), personal delegation style behaviours analysis, case studies, communication skills practise, observations
