If you want to be less dependent on tradesmen and gain the confidence to take on simple DIY tasks around the home then this course is perfect for you.
No previous knowledge or experience is required.
Dates and Times
We hope to run this course in Autumn 2017.
- Site Carpentry and Bench Joinery
Exams and Assessments
The qualification is made up of a number of practical units; working in our well-equipped workshops you will practice and develop hand tool skills, while making and working on various projects. Each unit is then assessed using an end-of-unit practical assessment piece, involving you working from drawings to make either an item of joinery/carpentry, or build using brick and block-work.
There is no formal qualification for this course.
For some the course provides DIY skills; for others it may be a stepping stone to working in the construction industry.
This is a basic practical skills course; in addition to the trade skills, you will be improving your numeracy and literacy through the use of drawings, specifications and accurate measuring. It does not guarantee a job in the construction industry, but it will support you plans and career aims.
The cost of this course in 2016 was £550 but this may change in 2017.
Courses costing more than £100 can usually be paid for in instalments. Please contact the College for details.
