One year course

What will I study?

This course is designed to provide you with an awareness of the skills and knowledge needed to care for young children. It will help you develop an understanding of early years settings.

Units include:

Child Development
Sharing learning experiences with children
Growth and development of young children
Human growth and development
Understanding learning and development through play
Safeguarding the welfare of children and young people

Also included are visits, guest speakers, career preparation events and work placement hours.

Maths/English GCSE retakes are required if not already achieved at grade C (grade 4), or the study of Level 2 Maths and English Functional Skills course.

Students are required to complete a successful Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check prior to starting the course, for which there will be a charge.

What could it lead to?

On successful completion of the main qualification as well as the appropriate qualifications in English and Maths, you can progress to a Level 2 course in Child Studies.
