27th June 2017
An enjoyable York College music event, Summer Sounds in the Park, entertained an appreciative audience in Rowntree Park on the sunny afternoon of Saturday 24th June, when music students from A level and Vocational music courses performed a variety of music genres including jazz, soul, rock and pop.
The event was a culmination and celebration of the music performance work studied throughout the year and the students performed to a high standard and put on a great show. Many of the students are progressing to study Higher Education music courses at a range of universities and conservatoires across the country including Leeds College of Music.
Emily Thorp, Music department Team Leader said: ‘This was a fabulous final music performance and a fantastic end to our academic year. The staff and students in the music department have worked extremely hard on both the curricular and extra-curricular music this year, putting on more than ten large shows at various venues across the city, and several other informal performances. Summer Sounds in the Park is now an annual event in our calendar and we hope to build on it next year and continue to produce exciting, successful, high quality music performances. We wish all our students all the best in their future studies.’
The music department would like to thank all those who generously donated to the charity LIAM throughout Summer Sounds in the Park.
