BA Fashion Design and Production students at York College have each produced a dress for the charity organisation Dress a Girl Around the World; a campaign led by the charity Hope 4 Women International.
The charity believes every little girl deserves the dignity of at least owning one dress and that girls in the most dangerous and deprived countries around the world need to know they are worthy of love and respect. The garments have Dress A Girl labels on the outside, sending an additional message that the girls wearing them are under the care of an organisation, giving added protection from those who would harm them.
The campaign struck a chord with the fashion students at York College. Tutor Marie Neal-Smith is delighted with the work. She says: "Our degree students have produced 19 lovely colourful dresses, using patterns provided by the charity. The dresses will bring a smile to the faces of every young girl who wears them. It is such a worthwhile cause and the students were pleased to use their skills to help.”
