Extended Diploma Production Arts (Backstage Arts) students at York College have created a colourful mural at Tesco, Askham Bar. Putting their scenic art skills to good use, they designed and painted a large autumnal scene as a backdrop to the supermarket’s café area.
Becky Cornes, Backstage Arts tutor comments: “Students are learning skills used in the production industry, either backstage in the professional theatre or for television production. This project not only used their scenic art skills but also made a difference to the community. It is satisfying to know that the students’ work will be seen and appreciated by many local people.”
Student James Orr said: ‘We love our course and this project will be seen by loads of people. In addition we were able to use the project to support the Tesco fundraising efforts for diabetes.’
Duncan Bartlett, Community Champion at Tesco Askham Bar commented: “It was a real pleasure having the York College students from the Backstage Arts course in our store. Their energy, enthusiasm and expertise was a credit to them and their tutors.”
