The cultural diversity of York College’s international students was celebrated on United Nations Day (24th October). Flags from around the world adorned the atrium and a large map showing where students at York College come from gave visitors an insight into the different cultures within the College community.
This academic year around 150 international students, from over 15 different countries, are studying courses at York College. On United Nations Day Russian, Chinese, Albanian and German students manned stands, offering ‘name writing’ in different languages and answering questions about their home countries. On display were facts about the United Nations and United Nations Day, as well as profiles of famous people and the students’ favourite places, as well as their favourite recipes which they encouraged visitors to try out at home.
The College’s Equality and Diversity team provided jelly beans as giveaways for the event, to celebrate and embrace the different nationalities and cultures that exist in today’s society.
