Looking to get back into Higher Education? An Access programme could be the answer and we've got several different pathways!
Access to HE Diploma at York College
Our Access to Higher Education Diploma programmes aim to prepare you for entry into higher education and provide the underpinning knowledge and skills needed to progress onto a degree or diploma course at a university or college. If you are wishing to return to learning after a break or trying to change your career path, or if you have few formal qualifications but wish to go onto higher education.
We had over 150 Access to HE Diploma students last year, including over 40 international students. The pathways cover a range of vocational areas from Healthcare and Nursing, to Science and Humanities. These courses are all studied for around 15 hours a week over 32 weeks and involve a range of activities relevant to the pathway being studied.
The College’s learning facilities are among the finest in the region. Facilities include workshops, art studios, a spa centre and other services not available to other providers of Access to HE courses in the local area. Being a student provides you with access to our Learning Centre and the opportunity to get a student card which will allow discounts from a wide range of outlets.
Last year, 72% of our Access to HE students achieved their Diploma compared with 66 per cent nationally, with 81 per cent progressing onto higher education. This level of achievement places York College in the top 10% of colleges for Access provision. In addition, we have a track record of working with outstanding adult learners.
The Access to Higher Education Diploma is validated and accredited through the National Awarding Body Ascentis which is an Access validating agency, licensed and regulated by the Quality Assurance Agency for Higher Education (QAA). Further details can be found on its website.
All applicants meeting the entry requirements and personal statement criteria will be invited to attend an information and assessment session.
