The Week to Choose Apprenticeships
During National Apprenticeship Week (6th-10th March) the College hosted a series of events. The Apprenticeship Showcase, held during the Open Evening, was a fantastic opportunity for prospective apprentices and employers to meet and discuss current apprenticeships vacancies, and the realities of balancing paid-employment with academic study.
The Business Development Unit hosted several Business Breakfasts in Ashfields where employers within construction and engineering listened to College presentations about the apprenticeship offer and discussed how their businesses could best offer apprenticeships in the future. The College also had a presence at an apprenticeship event at St Peter’s School and a stand at Tesco Askham Bar as well as Leeds Apprenticeship Recruitment Fair, an event which was attended by almost 6,000 visitors.
With apprenticeships gaining so much attention nationally, the College has made clear steps to ensure it is regarded as one of the top apprenticeship providers in the region and has recently been approved by the Skills Funding Agency to join the Register of Apprenticeship Training Providers (RoATP).
Nikki Davis, Assistant Principal at York College comments: “The new apprenticeships are focused, flexible and employer led and will change the face of skills training in the UK. The Business Development Unit is working on the apprenticeship changes and is delighted that the Skills Funding Agency has approved the College’s application to deliver apprenticeship training directly, or as a sub-contractor to large, levy-paying employers.”
