York College is delivering a range of training programmes for Small and Medium Sized Employers (those with less than 250 employees) in York for employees aged 19 or over that could be fully funded for those meeting eligibility criteria.

Level 2 Diploma in Health & Social Care

This qualification consolidates the skills and knowledge of candidates working within the Health & Social Care sector for the achievement of a recognised qualification. This qualification is suitable for candidates working in a range of health and social care settings such as:

  • Care assistants/support workers in residential / nursing settings
  • Healthcare assistants /support workers in community and primary care environments
  • Healthcare assistants / support workers in acute health environments
  • Care workers in domiciliary care services
  • Care assistants /support workers in day services
  • Support workers in supported living projects
  • Personal Assistants employed directly by the individual they support

Qualification and Level

Level 2 City & Guilds Diploma in Health and Social Care Adults

What will be studied?

  • Level 2 in Health & Social Care Adults
  • Introduction to communication in health, social care or children and young people’s settings
  • Introduction to personal development in health, social care or children and young people’s settings
  • Introduction to equality and inclusion in health, social care or children and young people’s settings
  • Introduction to duty of care in health, social care or children and young people’s settings
  • Principles of safeguarding and protection in health and social care
  • The role of the health and social care worker
  • Implement person centred approaches in health and social care
  • Contribute to health and safety in health and social care
  • Handle information in health and social care settings

Above are the nine mandatory units further optional units are studied to make up the minimum 46 credits required. The optional units are agreed on a one to one basis depending on individual job roles of candidates.

Method of delivery

Work based: An Assessor will visit the learner in their workplace to undertake workplace assessments. Candidates will be required to complete study/assignments in their own time.

Candidates will need to be signed up to the qualification by end of October 2014.

Level 2 ILM Certificate in Team Leading

This Institute of Leadership and Management (ILM) programmer is designed for current and aspiring team leaders. The programme aims to develop the core skills needed to lead a team including how to plan, allocate and monitor work and key tools and techniques for team leaders
Your team leaders will:

  • develop the skills to lead their team successfully
  • learn motivational techniques to get the best from their team
  • build confidence to tackle difficult issues
  • gain the tools to develop as a leader

Programme Assessment:

The programme will include a range of practical activities which will build up into a portfolio, there will be a requirement for some additional research, work based evidence gathering (or simulation for aspiring team leaders) and delivery of a short presentation in order to meet ILM assessment criteria.

City and Guilds Level 2 Certificate in Customer Service

This qualification is designed to give all of your employees a solid foundation in delivering excellent customer service and includes:

  • principles of effective customer service
  • skills required to deliver efficient and reliable customer service
  • supporting the customer service environment
  • different communication methods
  • dealing with customer queries, problems and complaints

Programme Delivery: Six sessions, 1.00 pm – 4.00 pm 13 October to 24 November 2014 (Excluding 27 October due to College half term)

Location: Yorkshire Rail Academy – located behind the National Railway Museum

Level 2 Mental Health

This programme is designed for employees working in a range of settings within the public, private or voluntary sectors and who wish to raise their awareness of mental health.

The qualification aims to broaden employees’ knowledge of mental ill-health and the most commonly diagnosed mental health conditions. Employees will develop an awareness of the signs and symptoms of these conditions and how they may affect people’s day-to-day lives. Employees will also gain an insight into how these conditions can be successfully managed.

Programme delivery: Fourteen evening classes 6pm to 9pm from 4 Nov 2014 to 10 Feb 2015

Dementia Awareness

This programme is designed for anyone who wishes to improve their knowledge and understanding of the condition and to begin to understand how to apply the principles of ‘person-centred’ dementia care.

  • Signs and symptoms of dementia
  • Communicating with a person who has dementia
  • Caring for a person who has dementia

This programme is open to all – care professionals, family & friends of people with dementia and is aimed at increasing knowledge and understanding of dementia. There will also be a question/answer session.

Introduction to Infection Control

This programme is designed to introduce the principle of infection prevention and control for people working in the health and social care sector. It's particularly useful if you're a health care assistant, health care worker or a social care worker.

  • What causes infection
  • Key principles of infection prevention and control
  • Systems and procedures relating to prevention and control of infection
  • Importance of risk assessments relating to prevention and control of infection
  • Importance of using Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) relating to prevention and control of infection
  • Importance of good personal hygiene in the prevention and control of infection

Eligibility

Individuals must be aged 19 or over and employed or volunteer within a small or medium enterprise (SME) with fewer than 250 employees.

Employers must be based within the Leeds City Region or the York and North Yorkshire Learning Enterprise Partnership regions: York, Selby, Craven, Harrogate, Leeds, Wakefield, Kirklees, Craven, Richmondshire, Hambleton, Ryedale and Scarborough.
