The remainder of this page provides information about how we process your application and what happens between now and when you arrive in York.

Making offers

When we receive your application we will decide whether you meet the course entry requirements. Guidance on typical entry requirements is available here. If your qualifications are not on this list, please contact the International office and we can advise you. After reviewing your qualifications, and we are confident that you meet our requirements, we will make you an offer.

What if my offer has conditions?

Sometimes our offers will be “conditional”. This means that there are certain things that you need to do before we can formally welcome you onto the course. For example, you may need to wait until you receive this year's exam results, or until you pass the tests to show that you have the English language requirements.

There is no need to worry about this. It is perfectly normal and most students are in the same position. All it means is that when you meet your conditions you need to let us know and we can then upgrade you to an "unconditinoal offer" or finalise your acceptance.

What happens next?

Regardless of whether we make you a conditional or unconditional offer, there are some things you will need to do next:

Accept your offer by returning our Terms and Conditions. You can return this document via email. It can be downloaded below in several languages.

Confirm your place by paying your course deposit of £1000. Details of how to do this will be given in your offer letter.

If you are not successful in getting a visa, we will refund the deposit minus an administration fee of £100. However, if you withdraw your application without giving us a good reason, we reserve the right to keep the whole deposit.

Will I need a visa?

For comprehensive advice about visas and immigration follow this link. If you require a Tier 4 visa, please note that you can only apply for this three months before your course is due to start (i.e. not longer than three months). In most cases this will mean you should aim to apply for your visa around mid June. For this reason, we will normally issue CAS documents in early June.

In addition, we will only issue CAS once you have done the following:

  • Returned the Terms and Conditions form
  • Paid your deposit
  • Met any outstanding conditions on your offer letter

Once I have accepted my place, will I hear from you again?

In our eyes, your York College experience begins from the moment you apply. We will contact you a number of times before the start of your course with news and information. In particular you will hear from us about the following:

  • Accommodation
  • The arrivals process
  • Trips, and other College activities

When should I arrive at York College?

Students should plan to travel to Manchester Airport. Every year we arrange a dedicated arrival day at Manchester Airport with transport back to York College. Information about what date the arrival day will take place will be provided after you have secured an offer from the College.

What if I arrive at a different airport or on a different day?

If you decide to arrive at another airport or on a different day to your designated arrival day then it is unfortunately not possible for us to arrange your transport. However, we will advise you about suitable transport links and ensure that you will have someone to contact if you encounter any problems.

If you arrive in the UK before your course starts, you may wish to travel and see more of the country. This is fine. You simply need to let us know when you will be arriving in York. If you require support for accommodation, please be aware that it is not always possible to arrange accommodation for students early. However, we will do our best.

If you are worried that you will arrive after your course start date, perhaps due to delays with your visa application or travel arrangements, we will do our best to help you. Normally if the delay is just a few days you will not have a problem catching up.

When does my course start?

Course start dates vary. More information about this will be sent to you following your application.
